Self Drilling Anchor Bolt-Preferred Product in Slope Stabilization

Section K60+535～K60+585 of Henan Provincial Highway S246 Line is located in Xin'an County, Luoyang City, Wangwu Mountain Range, Western Henan. This section of the mountain has steep slopes and exposed limestone. The crack width of the slope crest is 4cm, the middle is 6cm, and the crack bottom is 22cm. There is friability soil on the slope. The slope may collapse during the rainy season, which causes pavement damage and security threat in driving.

Construction engineers chose ordinary mortar anchors to strengthen the slope, as its rock is severely broken. However, collapse holes, stuck pipes, grout dissatisfaction occurred in the construction, which had a great impact on construction safety and project quality. Through the repeated research, it’s found that the solutions to these problems must start with the anchor bar itself. Therefore the self-drilling hollow anchor bar was adopted and finally achieved success.

Compared with ordinary mortar bolts, self-drilling anchor bolts have the following advantages:

1.The self-drilling anchor bar uses high-strength seamless steel pipe material, and continuous wave thread conforms to international standards. Anchor bars can be cut and lengthened on request, which brings great convenience to the construction.

2.The self-drilling anchor bolt combines drilling, grouting, and anchoring functions. Cement slurry will enter through the hollow pipe from the bottom to the orifice, which avoids the loss of slurry when the grouting pipe is pulled out. Self drilling anchor bolt can achieve a better anchoring effect under higher grouting pressure.

3.Self-drilling hollow bar has the characteristics of fast construction speed, good anchoring ability, simple operation, and timely provision of anchoring force, etc.
